Project Overview

This project was completed in Gisozi, near Bunagana in Kisoro, Uganda, to provide reliable access to clean drinking water for local households.

In this region, access to safe water remains limited, with families often relying on daily 4 hour trips for their daily needs. This installation aims to improve water security and reduce the burden of water collection in rural communities.

WHAT WAS DELIVERED

A 20,000L rainwater harvesting tank was constructed using locally sourced materials and local labour.

The project was completed on-site in a rural community, with materials transported to the base of the hill, and then carried up by community members.

This approach ensured:

  • local employment and skills development

  • strong community participation in the construction process

  • long-term sustainability of the infrastructure

IMPACT

reliable access to clean drinking water

Lasting Community Impact

This project now provides improved access to safe drinking water for approximately 400 people in the surrounding community.

It has reduced the time required to collect water and decreased reliance on unsafe sources, leading to fewer waterborne illnesses and improved health outcomes. It has also allowed families—particularly women and children—to spend more time on education, work, and daily activities.
