Two sports. One mission. Clean water for Uganda.
Following the success of our inaugural Play for Water tournament in 2025, Play for Water returned in 2026 bigger, louder and with an even greater community behind it.
Held across two Sundays at Peter Lightfoot Oval in Middle Park, the 2026 tournament brought together the Brisbane sporting community for two sports with one shared purpose – clean water for Uganda. With both netball and soccer on the program, the event attracted 24 netball teams and 18 soccer teams, bringing hundreds of players, families, volunteers and supporters together across the two days.
What makes Play for Water so special is that every game played in Brisbane helps create real change thousands of kilometres away. Funds raised through the tournament support Ripples of Change Uganda’s work building 20,000-litre rainwater harvesting tanks in rural Ugandan communities, providing reliable access to clean water for up to 400 people per tank.
The 2026 tournament also received wonderful support from our local community and elected representatives. Local MP Jess Pugh helped promote the event, highlighting the power of sport to create positive change, while Councillor Sarah Hutton also got behind the campaign and encouraged the local community to come along and support the cause. Their involvement helped shine a light on the connection between our local community in Brisbane and the communities we support in Uganda.
The event was made possible through the incredible support of players, volunteers, referees, sponsors, local businesses and community members who donated their time, skills and resources. From the people running onto the court and field, to the volunteers working behind the scenes, everyone played a part in turning sport into something much bigger.
