Project Overview

This project was completed in Kanaba, Kisoro, Uganda (like Tank 2) to provide reliable access to clean drinking water for local households.

The region’s steep, mountainous terrain and the long distances to water sources make daily water collection extremely difficult, which is why a second tank was constructed in this community.

This installation represents a continued commitment to improving water security and reducing reliance on unsafe sources.

WHAT WAS DELIVERED

A 20,000L rainwater harvesting tank was constructed using locally sourced materials and local labour.

The project was completed on-site in a rural, mountainous community, where all materials were transported to the base of the hill and then carried by local community members to the construction site at the top.

This approach ensured:

  • local employment and skills development

  • strong community involvement in the construction process

  • long-term sustainability of the infrastructure

IMPACT

reliable access to clean drinking water

Lasting Community Impact

This project now provides improved access to safe drinking water for approximately 400 people in the surrounding community.

It has reduced the time required to collect water, allowing families (particularly women and children) to spend more time on education, income-generating activities, and household responsibilities. It has also reduced reliance on unsafe water sources, leading to fewer waterborne illnesses and improved overall health outcomes.
