Project Overview

This project was completed in Kanaba, Kisoro, Uganda, to provide reliable access to clean drinking water for local households.

Prior to construction, families in the area were required to walk up to four hours each day to collect water from this unclean source.

WHAT WAS DELIVERED

A 20,000L rainwater harvesting tank was constructed using locally sourced materials and local labour.

The project was completed on-site in a rural, mountainous community, with all materials transported to the base of the hill and then carried by community members on foot to the construction site.

This approach ensured:

  • local employment and skills development

  • active community participation in the construction process

  • long-term sustainability of the infrastructure

IMPACT

reliable access to clean drinking water

Lasting Community Impact

This project now provides improved access to safe drinking water for approximately 400 people in the surrounding community.

It has reduced the time required to collect water, allowing families (particularly women and children) to spend more time on education, income-generating activities, and household responsibilities. It has also reduced reliance on unsafe water sources, leading to fewer waterborne illnesses and improved overall health outcomes.
