Little Angels Bwase Primary School

Improving safety, hygiene, and dignity through essential school infrastructure.

THEIR STORY

Little Angels Bwase Primary School serves a low-income community in Jinja, Uganda, supporting approximately 205 students and 15 teachers.

Prior to intervention, the school had extremely limited sanitation facilities, consisting of two basic pit latrines covered by a plastic sheet. During rainy periods, the surrounding ground became muddy and unsafe, creating hazardous conditions for students. There had been instances of children slipping into waste areas, posing serious health and safety risks.

The lack of adequate sanitation facilities also impacted student dignity, wellbeing, and school attendance, particularly for younger children.

Support was provided to improve the school environment through the development of safe and functional sanitation infrastructure.

OUTCOME & IMPACT.

This project provided Little Angels School with essential infrastructure to support student learning and wellbeing. The improvements created a safer, more functional environment where students can attend school consistently and learn with dignity.

Beyond the immediate physical changes, the project has strengthened the school’s capacity to serve its community, supporting both current students and future enrolments. It has also contributed to a greater sense of pride and ownership among staff, students, and families.

FUNDING & DELIVERY MODEL.

This project was funded through targeted fundraising led by a trusted local partner in Uganda, drawing on their personal and community networks.

Ripples of Change Uganda provided strategic guidance and advisory support throughout the process. This included assisting with the setup and management of an online fundraising platform, advising on communication and donor engagement, and supporting navigation of systems unfamiliar to the local partner.

Funds were raised and managed locally and applied directly to construction costs. Project delivery was coordinated on the ground, with ongoing oversight provided through regular communication and progress updates.

Building on this model, Ripples of Change Uganda intends to take a more direct role in the funding and delivery of future infrastructure projects.
