Babiyre is a 13-year-old girl living with her mother and two younger brothers near the Nile in Jinja, Uganda. Following the death of her father, the family has faced ongoing financial hardship, relying on irregular farm work that is often insufficient to meet basic needs.
As a result, the household frequently experienced food insecurity, and Babiyre had not been able to attend school due to the inability to afford school fees, uniforms, and learning materials.
At the time of initial intervention, she had no access to formal education, limiting her opportunities for long-term development and stability.
Support was initiated to remove these barriers and enable her to begin school for the first time.
Funding of school fees to allow enrolment
Provision of school uniforms, shoes, and essential learning materials
Coordination with local contacts and school staff to facilitate enrolment
Initial food support to stabilise the household during the transition
Payment of school fees at the beginning of each school term
Provision of additional school materials as required
Continued coordination through trusted local contacts
Monitoring of attendance and wellbeing to support consistent participation

Babiyre successfully commenced formal education in early 2026, marking a significant milestone given her previous lack of access to schooling. Removing the financial barriers to enrolment has allowed her to participate consistently in education, supported by the provision of uniforms, materials, and ongoing fee assistance.
Initial food support also contributed to improved short-term stability within the household, helping ease the transition into school. With continued support, Babiyre now has access to opportunities that were previously out of reach, creating a pathway toward improved long-term outcomes and reduced vulnerability.

All support provided to Babiyre is funded through direct donations.
Funds are primarily allocated to education-related expenses, including school fees and essential materials, and are transferred directly to the school where possible. Additional support is coordinated through trusted local partners to ensure that resources are used effectively and directly benefit Babiyre and her family.
Ongoing communication and monitoring ensure accountability and allow support to adapt to her needs over time.
Support for cases like Babiyre’s is made possible through individual donations.
