Molly, a two-year-old child from the Batwa community in Kisoro, was identified in severe distress following a serious injury and subsequent abandonment. She had sustained a fractured tibia approximately three weeks earlier during a domestic incident, but had received no medical treatment.
After the incident, Molly was left in the care of extended family members who lacked the financial capacity to access healthcare or provide adequate food and basic support. As a result, she was experiencing significant pain, malnutrition, and poor hygiene, placing her at high risk of both immediate and long-term health complications.
Immediate intervention was coordinated to address her urgent medical needs, including transport to a local healthcare provider where her injury was assessed and treated. At the same time, essential food supplies and welfare support were provided to stabilise her condition.
Since February 2025, ongoing support has been delivered through trusted local partners to improve Molly’s health, living conditions, and long-term wellbeing, including access to education and continued care.
Immediate support focused on addressing Molly’s urgent medical and welfare needs:
Emergency transport and access to medical care through a local healthcare provider
Medical assessment and treatment of her fractured tibia, including placement of a cast
Provision of food supplies to address immediate malnutrition
Monthly provision of food and essential supplies
Clothing and hygiene support to improve basic living conditions
Continued access to medical care as required
Treatment for parasitic infections affecting health and mobility
Provision of safe sleeping arrangements and improved living conditions
Ongoing coordination through trusted local partners and a dedicated sponsor
Molly’s fractured leg healed successfully, preventing what could have resulted in long-term disability. Early intervention significantly reduced her pain and immediate health risks, while ongoing support has led to noticeable improvements in her nutrition, hygiene, and overall wellbeing.
With consistent care and increased stability in her living conditions, Molly is now in a much safer and more supported environment. Importantly, she has transitioned into a boarding school, providing her with access to education and a structured setting that supports her long-term development.
Together, these outcomes have significantly reduced her vulnerability and created a pathway toward improved health, safety, and future opportunity.
All support provided to Molly is funded through direct donations.
Funds are allocated specifically to medical care, food, education, and essential welfare needs, and are transferred to trusted local partners who coordinate on-the-ground delivery. This approach ensures that support is practical, culturally appropriate, and directly reaches those it is intended to assist.
Ongoing communication and monitoring allow for accountability and ensure that resources continue to respond effectively to Molly’s changing needs over time.
Support for cases like Molly’s is made possible through individual donations.
